Nichiren Shu Buddhist Sangha of Tampa Bay

Nichiren Shu Buddhism is a Mahayana tradition from Japan, and has been present in the United States for 100 years. The tradition centers its practice and study on the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Dharma -- a teaching by Shakyamuni Buddha. Our central practice is chanting the Odaimoku or sacred title of the Lotus Sutra: Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.

During our practice session we chant sections from the Lotus Sutra, recite prayers for peace, and chant the Odaimoku, Namu Myoho Renge Kyo. The study of Buddhism, the Lotus Sutra, and the teachings of the Nichiren tradition are also be included. We are open and welcoming to all levels of experience, and meditation instruction for beginners is provided. All are welcome to attend.

All meditation and discussion sessions will be led by Shikimyo Erin Lauer, the local lay leader for Nichiren Shu in Tampa Bay. We are guided by our minister, Rev. Myokei Caine-Barrett who resides in and is the head minister of the Myoken Temple in Houston, Texas. Our Sangha in Florida is a branch group of the Houston Temple, and we host periodic visits from our minister, Rev. Myokei Caine-Barrett, during the year.
