Starhawk Workshop
November 15
St. Petersburg Florida

Women in Black, the St. Pete UU Church and the organizations listed below welcome Starhawk, who is coming to the Tampa Bay area to give a non-violent Direct Action Feminist Earthbased Spirituality training. She will be here on November 15 to speak for the Globalize This! event held at Williams Park in downtown St. Petersburg between the hours of 1PM and 3PM. See this link for more info. The workshop will be after the rally and will be held at a venue within walking distance of the park.

WHY? To encourage the mobilization against the corporate/government's vision of the future, as embodied in the upcoming FTAA talks in Miami: A long term plan where our planet Earth and her peoples are seen as "objects" to use and deplete. Creating wealth for a few and poverty for billions, while destroying countless ecosystems. Starhawk will share with us her own vision of a better world and how to offset the irresponsible choices made by the powers that are.

HOW? By sharing in-depth principles and techniques of non-violent direct action. By teaching creative methods for vibrant demonstrations and community work. Suggestions will be offered for upcoming 'fieldtrips' to Miami for the FTAA and to Georgia for the SOA vigil. She will conduct her workshop on Saturday, November 15th, near Williams Park, at the St. Petersburg Unitarian Universalist Church.

Starhawk is an internationally renowned author or coauthor of nine books, including The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Great Goddess, long considered the essential text for the Neo-Pagan movement, and the now-classic ecotopian novel The Fifth Sacred Thing. Starhawk is a veteran of progressive movements and deeply committed to bringing the techniques and creative power of spirituality to political activism. She travels internationally teaching magic, the tools of ritual, and the skills of activism.

A collection of her recent political writings, with new commentary, was published in late 2002: Webs of Power: Notes from the Global Uprising. Starhawk's newest book is an amazing blend of intelligence, heart, and spirit, the perfect convergence of the personal with the global, and easily one of the best of Starhawk's non-fiction to date.

Starhawk's focus for the last several years has been the global justice movement, training participants and taking part in many of the major actions, including those in Seattle, Washington, DC, Quebec City, Genoa, New York City, Cancun and doing direct action trainings for groups all over the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and South America.

Starhawk will be in Florida to protest the Free Trade Summit in Miami November 20th and 21st in downtown Miami. The November trade meetings are expected to attract as many as 100,000 protesters from around the globe. See more at: www.stopftaa.org/.

Starhawk currently lives part-time San Francisco, in a collective house with her partner and friends, and part-time in a little hut in the woods in western Sonoma County, where she practices permaculture in her extensive gardens and writes.
