After writing Sorry George in
2000, I started collecting other songs about people named
George Bush. I collected over 70 songs -- almost all
negative, and most from mp3.com (back when it was a vast
repository for free, independent music). Since then, Bush
ascended to the Presidency, and mp3.com descended to a being
mostly a link site (still useful, but very different). There
are still lots of songs about Mr Bush, but the online
distribution has shifted significantly. Stay tuned for more
04 updates.
Please email
if you have any suggestions of songs or sites to
include.

Artists
- A
Special Place In Hell - Four Years Under the Boot Heel of
George W. Bush by Bill
Jabanoski
- Political folk in the grand
tradition of Seeger & Ochs. An eleven song album,
with songs concentrating on the Iraq war. Roadkill Bill,
probably best known, these days, for his hit CDS, THE KEY
WEST PARTY CD and BEACH BUM BOOTLEG, is also the author
of one of the most popular internet fiction columns,
ROADKILL WEEKLY, and known for the thousands of
journalistic works he's filed from everywhere from
Southern Africa to the four months he spent reporting on
the war in Iraq between March and June of last year. A
few songs are available for free download at
Amazon.com,
including In The Court of Mad King George.
- The
Burning Bush by Davey
Jay
- Vigorous acoustic guitar with
vocals. 'Jay's second song dedicated to everyone's
[least] favorite president, The Burning Bush is
played in a style reminiscent of the late Johnny
Cash'.
- Bush
It / Send George Bush a Pretzel
[CD-SINGLE] by
Darryl Cherney and the Chernobles
- Musical commentary on Bush,
pretzels and more by the Earth First! Activist and one
time codefendant of Judi Bari. Samples and paid downloads
available at itunes.
- Fool
Me Once by Jim
Clark
- Nice country rock retelling of
Bush's famous inhibition. Words, chords and some
directions to the MP3 are posted at the top of the page
of the this
URL at the Democratic
Underground list.
- Don't
Misunderestimate Me by
The Neocons
- 'An alternative campaign song'.
Low key heartfelt country explaining the Bush situation.
Makes ya sort of like the guy (tho maybe not vote for
him).
- fun
with bush vol3 - terrible sadness
by djconcrete
- Heavy destruction drums &
repeated Bush samples: 'terrible sadness''.
- Gana
Dinero by The
Hashpipers
- Parody on Guantanamera with
added Spanish lesson & discussion. Like in the
original, the song is in Spanish and the spoken
translation is in English. Rated G. "Bush es un hombre
insincero..." Artist quote: "Jose Marti [Cuban hero
& writer of the words to Guantanamera] sounded
like the kind of cat who probably partied 'til dawn, too,
at least when no one was shooting at him. We think Jose
would be proud of "Gana Dinero" and agree that George W.
has no clue about real patriotism." Part of the Austin
TX-based Georgy Bush Project.
- George
W. from Texas (10 Gallon Smirk)
by Bill Oliver and the Lost
Otters
- Funky, lively country to the
tune of Long Tall Texan. "I'm George W. from Texas, we
lead the states in dirty air (he rides from Texas with
polluted air); I'm George W. from Texas, we lead the
states in dirty air (Grandfather clauses and polluted
air); We could save the last sea turtles, but they don't
vote so I don't care" Artist song description: "If GW is
such a great governor, keep him in Texas! If he's not . .
. we sure as hell don't want him in D.C.!"
- George's
House by Unidentified
Flying Orchestra
- Nice smooth cooking rock. "I
went to George's House for dinner, the servants let me
in..." Artist's description: Before Clinton, there was
George; after Clinton, there may be George again. Down in
the Washington war zone, there will probably always be
George -- pretending everything is okay when 'a family is
a value that is truly on the Right.' For your protection,
here's a power-rocking vaccine in the form of a recent
history lesson, the likes of which you'll never get in
school".
- Georgy
Bush by The Publicity
Seekers
- Weird Al-style parody of the
old Seekers' hit Georgy Girl. "Hey there, Georgy Bush,
Swinging 'round the country fancy free, Nobody you meet
could ever see the cluelessness there -- inside you."
From the artists' Mission statement: "The fight to defeat
Georgy Bush isn't just about politics. It's about making
sure that we elect intelligent, progressive leaders,
rather than the usual bunch of wealthy, selfish
dumbasses." Part of Austin TX-based Georgy Bush
Project.
- Hardball/
Fortunate Son [cd single].
by Vic Bondi
- From alternativetentacles.com
(home to many other alternative books & CDs): Vic
Bondi started his career as a protest singer. He then
went on to form Articles Of Faith, Jones Very and Alloy.
On his new ep (his first new material in 8 years), Vic
has come full-circle. The threat of war has inspired him
to release some protest material : so he wrote and
recorded Hardball - a rockin assault against George W. -
at the end of 2002 as well as covering John Fogerty's
Fortunate Son - the single best song about class and war
ever written. The CD includes 2 other songs by Articles
of Faith. Paid download available at itunes.
- I'm
George W. by George Mann
& Julius Margolis
- An anthemic reinterpretation of
Oh Suzanna. 'I'm George W., don't you cry for me, I've
come all the way from Texas just as dumb as I can be; I'm
George W., don't you cry for me, Now I've made it to the
White House- that's in Washington, DC'. Labor folkies
George & Julius 'combine social and labor history
with music and a dose of slapstick'. Their
website
features downloadable mp3s of I'm George W & other
Bush-related songs, plus lots of RealAudio excerpts from
their latest album, Hail to the Theif.
- imagine...
walk on the wild side by
rx
- George W Bush samples in a
mellow mashup of John Lennon's Imagine and Lou Reed's
Take a Walk on the Wild Side. rx has released other
political-themed electronica featuring Bush vocals,
including Dick is a Killer (a homoerotic fantasy about
Bush and Cheney), and a cover of U2's Sunday Bloody
Sunday..
- King
George II by
bjbleu
- Artist description: Uptempo
Rock song, written shortly after the younger Bush took
office in 2001. At which time I became totally convinced
of my life-long belief that our two main political
parties are just one ruling class elite who will do
anything to get more money and more power. Samples on the
page; paid downloads at itunes.
- John
McCutcheon MP3s
- A page where John McCutcheon
parks some topical songs that might or might not make it
into an album -- like Dick Cheney or Ashcroft's Army. 12
MP3s available for free download. Says McCutcheon: "Many
of the songs I'm writing these days have an immediacy
that makes the usual route of recording, CD production,
etc. antithetical to their purpose.".
- NRA
by The Austin Trio
- Parody on the old Kingston Trio
MTA song. It's pretty much just like being there at the
Hungry i until the random fuzz-tone guitar kicks in. "Oh,
will he ever learn-no, he never will learn / With our
fate, he's unconcerned (what a pity) / He will side
forever with that ol' gun lobby / He's a man who never
will learn" An excerpt from the artists' extensive
explanation of their career: "As good bands change and
mature with time, so we've done, and not without growing
pains. We struggled with leadership and haggled over
details. There were conflicts to keep egos in check,
mostly trying to satisfy newcomer, Bradley Von Ripptrapp.
He pushed the limit, but (as you'll hear) his amazingly
improvised lead guitar solos have completed our
performances beyond even what we had hoped for." Part of
Austin TX-based Georgy Bush Project.
- Revolution
Starts Now by Steve
Earle
- "Earle rushed The Revolution
Starts ... Now to stores ahead of the 2004 presidential
election, and given that timing and the songwriter's
righteous lefty stance, the disc's topical content should
surprise exactly no one. Even still, it's light on
invective, allowing Earle's deftly drawn characters to
make his points for him." (from amazon.com reviewer
Anders Smith Lindall). Samples available at
Amazon.com,
paid downloads available at itunes.
- David
Rovics songs

- Sorry
George, my vote is not for sale
by Ferriss & Leps
- Lively unorthodox fiddle tune.

folk theirs". Artist's description: "Swampgrass stomper
about some guy named George who likes to buy goats, boats
and votes".
